Midlands region Autumn Term training day

MSA members from three regions gathered in Derby for the Autumn term training day on 1 October 2016. Professor John Siraj-Blatchford and Lynnette Brock kept the delegates enthralled throughout the day, presenting the results of their latest research project, Schemes and Schemas – supporting the zone of proximal flow.

They talked about the synergy of teaching and playing in the early years, and explained how affordances (action possibilities) or schemes, and schemas are interlinked. The full day was divided into short sessions of theory, research and stimulating practical sessions, allowing everyone to understand how to support each child’s zone of proximal developmental flow.

Lynnette challenged us to identify the schemes offered by each piece of sensorial apparatus, making us truly appreciate how advanced Dr. Montessori was in her thinking.

Our thanks go to Lynnette and John for organising an extremely inspirational and thought provoking day.
