Maria Montessori was an early female pioneer and this year marks the 100th anniversary of Dr Montessori’s first official visit to London. To commemorate 100 years of women getting the vote in the UK, for the first time in British history, an all-female portrait takeover in Parliament took place with an exhibition of 209 Women – an exhibition in Parliament featuring 209 portraits of female MPS taken by 209 female photographers.
209 Women was a public exhibition in the Houses of Parliament from December 2018 – February 2019, replacing existing portraits of MPs, which are predominantly of men and by men. We are one of the sponsors of the exhibition and it is part of the Montessori 100 campaign to raise awareness of Maria Montessori’s pioneering life and the role the Montessori approach has in shaping future leaders and supporting equality.
Last month, the exhibition moved to Liverpool’s Open Eye Gallery. It will be a central component in a year of events for and about women in Liverpool in 2019.
