Aldersbrook Primary School

In the spring of 2013 the Head of Early Years at Aldersbrook Primary School approached the MSN Charity with a request for Montessori teacher training for their nursery and reception staff. The head was originally Montessori trained herself, and had the experience of running her own nursery. She applied the Montessori approach when she joined the school with the remit to improve their Foundation Stage.

Twelve teachers, TAs and the Head of the school started the Montessori training in September 2013. As they gained knowledge and understanding of the different areas of learning within the Montessori Early Years curriculum, they introduced open shelves with the appropriate activities into their classrooms and witnessed the transformation of their children s learning. Guided and supported by the senior management of the school those who started the course finished it and brought their newly gained expertise into their classrooms.

In the spring of 2014 the Montessori Schools Association acknowledged the contribution made by Angela Uesden – the Head of Early Years at Aldersbrook – to promoting Montessori education in the mainstream by awarding her with the Montessori Practitioner of the Year award. In the 2014-15 academic year the school achieved Outstanding results in their Ofsted inspection, the report recognising the quality of provision in the early years.

MSN support for training continued in the 2015/16 academic year and is about to start again in September 2017.
