On the 29th of September at Chapel Grange Montessori Nursery in Cheshire we held a very successful meeting with a high number of attendants and Dawn Nasser gave an interesting and pleasurable lecture on ‘The Outdoor Classroom’.  Dawn included the latest EYFS requirements and explained how they could be implemented into Montessori learning both inside and out.  Fortunately it was a lovely sunny day so we were able to spend time outside and share and exchange ideas from our own practice.  Dawn inspired us with some wonderful pictures and provided us with many ideas to take back to our settings.  The challenge is now on to create valuable learning opportunities in even the smallest outdoor areas.  

Region 4 also held a Yoga Training at York Montessori on 13 October and June Rowlands was once again our brilliant tutor.  The aim of the course was to enable practitioners to lead children of different ages in yoga sessions, but I suspect that some of us just wanted to have a little relaxation time and a look around another setting. 

We explored warm-up exercises, breathing techniques, postures, relaxation and calming exercises. It was really interesting to be shown how to adapt language, props and songs to the age of the children involved.

Yoga can help to improve concentration, develop calmness, and help children become more confident, whilst also encouraging emotional well-being, so is ideal for staff and the children.
