On 10th November 2012, fifty two members of MSA Region 12 met at Grantham Farm Montessori School in Hampshire.
The day started with Michele Dows-Miller giving us an update on MEAB Accreditation and Re-Accreditation. We currently have 13 accredited schools in Region 12 out of a total of 95 schools. We encourage those who are not accredited to start the process in 2013.
Dawn Nasser then gave an excellent presentation on ‘Revisiting Montessori and the Revised EYFS’. This was stimulating and enlightening, giving everyone a better understanding of the links between Montessori and the revised EYFS. We all came away feeling much more confident to make the required changes to improve our practice. Inspired by a Montessori Conference she had recently attended in the USA, Dawn asked each of us to think of one word which for us describes ‘Normalisation’. We came up with 26 words in total which was very thought provoking.
Every school attending had brought along an example of a child’s Learning Journey. In the afternoon, these were shared in small groups. Although they were all different, the consensus was that the quality was very high and it was certainly possible to see the tracking of children’s progress.
We were very pleased that Nuccia Lipscombe brought some of her Montessori Design products to show us. Montessori Designs produces and supplies beautifully made functional equipment to use in Montessori environments.
I would like to thank Dawn, Michelle, Susan Hartley-Raven, Nuccia and all my teachers for helping to make the day such a success.
