Penny Holland

Penny Holland is author of ‘We Don’t Play With Guns Here: war, weapon and superhero play in the early years’ She is academic leader for early childhood studies at London Metropolitan university teaching a range of modules on both the BA(Hons) Early Childhood Studies and MA Education (Early Childhood) courses. In addition she provides consultancy to individuals and clusters of early settings on her research interests locally and nationally. 

Penny will review the development over the past 30 plus years of zero tolerance as the accepted response to children’s war, weapon and super hero play in early years settings. Drawing on research findings she will question how appropriate and affective this response has been and will offer alternative ways of interpreting these forms of play and developing policy and practice in this controversial area.

Alice Sharpe

Alice has worked in the early year’s sector since graduating with her BEd Hons, she was awarded Lecturer of the Year in 2007 by The Early Years Educator Magazine. On behalf of Experiential Play, Alice now delivers training to 18 local authorities in Scotland. In 2009 she was invited to become an associate tutor for the BA Childhood Practice with The University of Glasgow; travelled to Dubai and Beijing to speak at Early Education conferences and continues to attend many national and international conferences as a delegate.

Alice is the MD of Experiential Play a training company who specialise in working with staff, parents and local authorities concerned with the provision of play and stimulation for children aged birth to eight years.

Jackie Hyde

Jackie Hyde is Director of dot 2 dot insurance who specialise in insurance for early years settings. dot 2 dot are the preferred insurance supplier for Montessori St Nicholas charity.

Linda Taylor

Linda Taylor is now Head of Marketing for a renewable energy company, but she was formerly a freelance marketing consultant and worked with the Montessori St Nicolas charity in helping set up and establish the Montessori Schools Association from 2004 – 2007. In addition she launched June’s Yoga and also managed the marketing for a number of local Montessori pre-schools. She has over 15 years of experience in all areas of marketing (brand positioning, communications, special events, advertising, direct mail and e-marketing) gained in a wide range of industries and companies.
