This course is designed for those wanting to teach children aged from 2½ to 6 using the Montessori method. It aims to equip successful students with a coherent set of educational values and a high level of professional competence. This is an internationally recognised award, and can be used towards the Early Childhood degree.

Course content

During the courses, you will study a wide variety of topics. We also give detailed instructions for using the teaching aids designed by Maria Montessori and used in Montessori schools world-wide.

Entry requirements

You must be over 17 years old, and have studied to GCSE level at least. Good spoken and written English are essential if you are to gain the maximum benefit from the course. Candidates for entry are assessed individually, so if you have any queries about your suitability for the course, please contact us.

Study commitment

Each part-time course lasts for one academic year of 30 weeks. Lectures are given in one six-hour or two three-hour sessions per week, giving a total of 210 hours. There are three additional seminars of 5 hours which students must attend. These are normally held on Saturdays. You will also be expected to study at home and to complete assignments. There are written and practical examinations at the end of the course.

In addition, there are other special interest seminars from time to time; these take around 6 hours, usually on a Saturday, and are not mandatory.

You can choose the study times which best suit your circumstances. The next available course will be starting in September 2010.

Each course includes with two 3-hour sessions each week on Tuesdays and Thursdays; students can choose between morning (9:30 to 12:30) or evening (6:00 to 9.00pm) sessions, whichever is most convenient for them.

Student Support

We place great importance on supporting our students to enable them to make the most of their time with us. Our courses are quite small, with about 20 students, which means that our friendly staff are able to help you through any difficulties you may have. We really want you to succeed!

Child care

We are not currently able to offer any child care facilities for students.
